"Even highbrow establishments are getting in on the fun -- hence the
"Bachelor"-style parties at Cipriani Sutton Place, an event space.
At these upscale speed-dating dinners co-sponsored by the VIPLife matchmaking service, eight tables are filled with pre-selected bachelors - in other words, those willing to shell out $1,250 - to meet pre-screened
bachelorettes.
They all switch seats throughout the meal in the hope of landing a second date.
"It seemed like well-organized fun," says Megan Warren, a ravishing redhead who attended the event.
"The idea of 30 women being picked was intriguing, an 'only in New York' type of experience."
